I heard it was going to extend out to the North Circular.
I may live in East London, I may have a number plate that reads "Chopt", but I do NOT use 6" wheel spacers!

But the flex plate and front external pulley/weight are the same ones I had before, they did go for the balancing.
ok, but a call to check that they were fitted to the crankshaft for the balancing wouldn't hurt just to check. especially as you said they'd not done one before. just saying. you'd curse if you got it all apart again and it was that simple just for the sake of a phone call.
edit, didn't you change the crankshaft 'cos the balancer was wobbling on the worn crank snout? is the balancer worn internally, so it's bolted on for the balancing then doesn't sit quite the same when you refit it in the car? again, just thinking out loud.

Not right away Ian, that's a long term plan. Few years away yet as people like you would protest too much about having to buy new cars you can't afford. Think he's talking about 2020 or after that.

    https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ult...-emission-zone

    comes into force 2020,

and only out to tower bridge .

    https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ult...-emission-zone

also if you live in the zone or near it ..

    "Residents

Registered residents who live in the ULEZ will be granted a three year sunset period with a 100% discount to give them more time to change their vehicle to meet the ULEZ standards
The discount will be available to those who live in the ULEZ from 2020 to 2023 and will only apply while they live within the zone
After the 6 September 2023, residents must pay 100% of the daily ULEZ charge to drive a vehicle in the zone if it does not meet the ULEZ standards
The ULEZ residents' discount will be available to residents within the ULEZ and in designated areas next to the ULEZ (as apply to the Congestion Charge residents' discount). To benefit from the residents discount you must have successfully registered with Transport for London. More details on how you can register for this discount will be available closer to the time."

looks like even when its all in force you can pay 12.50 on on top of the congestion charge for those day you want to drive in the centre like chelsea cruise etc .

Actually edit that ,the zone does not go out as far as chelsea .

MyGasser - yes, they said they fitted the external pulley to the crank for balancing.
No, balancer not worn internally, very tight fit and running true now.

BlackPop and Ivanheow - thanks for the info re ULEZ, made me feel much more positive.

Had a chat to Charles at Real Steel, very helpful.
I realize now that although i adjusted the pre load on the rockers according to the book, but I assumed that they would be empty of oil, however more likely that some oil still in them, thus my adjustments would be incorrect. Hoping thats the problem, gonna make a start today.

So I made sure the lifters had no oil in them this time and redid the preload.
Fired it up today, runs better, just like its old self, but the vibration is still there. I'm convinced its the balancing job been done wrong.
Looks like I'll be pulling it all apart AGAIN and this time i'm gonna take it to Real Steel, at least they do this kind of work all the time and know what they are doing.
So near, yet so far. When I had it running today I really wanted to get it out and take it for a drive. But rather than waste money putting road tax on it I should get it sorted properly. And summers coming. Drat.

    Thanks Robert.
No, the replacement crank (Eagle, from Real Steel) only has one keyway. Anyway, they are different size keyways, you couldnt get it wrong way round if you tried.
