Well the new 350 engine has done 500 miles now, running sweetly on one carb, now gonna remove blanking plate and see what its like on both carbs before I play about with jetting.
When I first fit the twin carbs (on the old 400 engine) I simply cut the extra bits off the bonnet for clearance, but now its time to tidy it up a bit.

First I bought a new filter, and reshaped the hole in the bonnet to reflect the nice round shape at the front

Then I got some steel tube and bent it around a wooden former to be the same shape

Next I drilled some holes through the guard on the angle grinder so I could screw it to the bench

This enabled me to slice through the outer edge of the tube consistently so it would just slip over the cut edge of the bonnet

    ...like so.

Since these pics Ive primed and painted it roughly (with a brush!) just to protect it from the elements cos I really want to keep it on the road and use it as much as possible before ULEZ comes to my road in less than 2 years. Gulp.

Ive got a few little bits of bodywork to sort out before painting it properly.

I may live in East London, I may have a number plate that reads "Chopt", but I do NOT use 6" wheel spacers!

    Thanks Ivanheow, Mygasser, Blackpopracing.

Here's what it looks like, I'm pleased with it, apart from proper prep and paint.

I liked to be able to pop the bonnet and it would stay up. BUT after getting it to work nicely it stopped working after some time. I then redid it with new gas rams, doubling up and repositioning. And soon after, it's not working - AGAIN. I guess the weight of the bonnet with those headlamps is just too much. So now I'm going to keep it simple and chuck the gas rams and fit a conventional bonnet stay.

It's possible the rams don't like being right above the hot headers when the bonnet's shut mate.

Thats probably it. Search ratchet stays instead, should swap over and not pressure dependant.

    Ah yes, Thanks Neil.
But why didn't those engineers anticipate that I would want to fit rams close to hot exhausts and design them accordingly?
    Cha.

Thanks Mark, but I'm already modifying a bonnet stay from a TX2 taxi. Seems appropriate!

Also today went for a spin with both carbs hooked up, wow, spins tyres really easy now.
Previously there was a slight pinking sometimes, timing is spot on, but I noticed that the vacuum is so great that on light throttle there is probably still enough vacuum to advance it. So I disconnected the vacuum advance and all is well now.

Apart from the bonnet stay I'm still needing to connect the breather pipes, various other little jobs on my list.

What about the Anglia 105e boot type prop? I think car builder solutions do one like that, lift til it clicks to hold it up and lift again and it releases to close it.
