    The Temptress.

    Hello chaps ,

    New project .

i saw this down the scrappy ..

And decided to build a touring car .Very quiet , reasonably fast , and cumfy wumfy inside ..

Unfortunately it was so rusty the o/s centre pillar and the two doors had fallen off , and i spent many days tramping around trying to find them , to no avail,,,and that's where i got a bit stuck.

I did have eye out , in case something came up on the bay , after doing lots of paint images of what i thought would look good .

Lo and beholdski, last week a stripped, but what looked more complete and much less rusty that the scrappy one ,surfaced......

6TH of august at 8:41 and 13 seconds PM ... i won the car .

i just plonked my total budget in , 25 mins before the end , and sat there with a bass drum heart beat watching the time turn red at 5 mins , and the bids coming , in ,......

one bidder bid at 14 seconds and 9 seconds trying to find my top number , but then the clock counted down to ZERO ,,,and the sexy little thing was mine ,,well not so little since they are 5 metres long.

Tomorrow morning it arrives , from deepest south uk , and i am jolly excited .

It will either be a lot of work , or a little bit less work .

    PLANS :

my idea is to accentuate its lovely deco lower body , and try to reduce the roof line , maybe a chop , maybe just all blacked out , not sure..... i have no chop experience at all , but hey , that didn't stop with my last project so pppffft , we shall see.

i did some renders of possible looks ...

stock , and 4 variations of roof line..

my fave at the mo ..

    i estimate that at a 1.5" lower roof .

Engine wise , the plan was to use my spare 3.2 aj16 engine ,maybe turbo maybe supercharged ,with either one of my two jag autos or another transit manual ..however...

This car comes with a complete stock looking engine , so it maybe, if it's ok , i would use the original 3.4 litre HEMI...... 6 cylinder......... YES i did say HEMI in capitals cos i mean , what's not to like .... it puts out 150 bhp at 4400 , with two dinky little carbs , so that may like a bit of supercharging,,

    n'est pas !?

Funnily enough i do have a eaton m90 off a db7 , that may be repairable with a bit of milling and teflon stripping ....

it is a 4 speed manual , with a 4:1 rear diff , so a bit low geared at around 20mph/1000 , the transit box would make that 27mph/1000 , or maybe there is a higher diff out there somewhere.

interior , well again i shall see what turns up , but if its all poorly then a whole interior from a xj jag at the scrappy would work too .

Colours : i am ,at the moment , imagining black roof , and black brightwork ,and then oyster gold or brandywine bonnet and lower half ,disc wheels .

Stance , a bit lower , level sill , and as quiet as i can make it , it will run on lpg again , but a simple venturi system ,which i have the parts and tank for .

so roll on tomorrow , and i will put up some pictures , i spent then day in the heat chopping up a big pile of wood and two 12ft x 4 ft trunks to make a space of the car to be parked in while i check it out .

    thanks for reading ,

    regards
    robert

Woop woop here we go again!

By the time you get around to the roof chop, you will have been driving around in Medusa with the hood up unable to see traffic lights from less than 300 yds.

Unless of course you have a fiendishly clever answer to that problem..

After that a 1.5" chop to the Armstrong will still feel like you're driving around in a greenhouse, how about measuring a headlight wiper arm and chopping till it just fits?

    Very nice Robert,
If anyone can pull it off I’m sure it’s you.

    I’ll just park this here…

You only have to look at Hopper coach builds for all the inspiration you’ll ever need.

Here is a thread that should keep us all viewing. Temptress sounds like a great title.
When it lands, post up the picture of you behind the wheel ( flat cap and fighter ace moustache this time or something more regal? Chauffeur outfit perhaps??)
Looking forward to the build Robert.

Yes, the 1.5" chop and possibly one of those Rolls Royce fighter plane engines, you know the one I mean.

Wow, what a great project! The AS was a lovely posh car, but the mods you propose will give it a sportier edge. Not an AS, but to get us all in the mood this is a car I've coveted for a while - https://www.thornleykelham.com/resto...tlaw-number-1/
