Exciting that someone is prepared to build one of these. Went to buy and had a test drive of a 346 with pre-selector gearbox some 50 year ago ( I eventually bought an 8 year old two owner mark 9 Jag) - my overriding impression back then was of a really classy vehicle but our of its depth for the market intended. I vividly remember the non-powered steering and the endless turning of the wheel to get around corners. Pre-select gearbox with fluid flywheel was good (early version of torque converter) and could pull away in any gear.
Its a very sophisticated vehicle which needs careful modification. Your plan to lower the roof a little is great. It also need lowering on the springs a equal amount to balance it up. Make full use of OEM wheeltrims on modern rubber (presumably the wheels are 16" diameter) perhaps introduce some chrome trim along the body (where there are already body lines) to separate the two tone colour scheme it really needs (black and burgundy, black and blue, any solid two tone combination.
IMHO this car misses out stylewise like so many 50's and 60's Brit cars by not having a two door version - it really needs to be a two door pillarless coupe - all that stainless/chrome window trim with matching chrome trim lines down its sides and open window frames...........engine should remain initially with AS engine (didn't Humber use this later in the Snipe and Imperial? - sorry don't like the thought of a Jag engine or even worse Transit - neither sophisticated enough for this. A big heavy car needs a big torquey engine - so a crate big block Chevy and auto transmission would be ideal - or perhaps LS3 with power adder?

Robert – I think I can speak for most of your regular followers and say that if you said you were planning to build FAB1 with no experience of four wheels turning at the front, we would just tune in to watch you make it happen.

    Good luck, Paul.

    Yee-hah!!
I remember you telling me about the one in the breakers, great to see it becoming a reality!

    I reckon

    2" chop at front
    About 6" chop at back
    2 door stretch.
    2-3" lowered suspension

As per above comments, we know we're gonna enjoy this!

You only have to look at Hooper coach builds for all the inspiration you’ll ever need.
