    Paul ,

no these were freebies from a friend , i think they're off a winnebago , but there are lots of land rovers out there on 7.50 16,s and they come up on ebay a fair bit .

hi paul, i'm pretty sure earlier nissan cabstars had 7.50x16 tyres which although commercial didn't have a 4x4 tread pattern like most landrover ones would.
need a job done on your project? i may be able to help.

At long last cutting some steel !!!

    Hi all

Well I feel the mock-up has served it's purpose , I now know where the seats/pedals and steering need to be and an approximate shape for the body.

After cc41memorylane came over and removed the steering box , despite me claiming the nut was 10mm larger than size !

I needed to start the real car so we have the embryo firewall :-

So these are the parts laid out the bottom has a cut out for the gearbox and I need to cut 2 sloping pieces to tie the 10" stubs to the main frame the white plate is part of the Sherpa firewall and is a good template for the pedal box as it is bl**dy heavy and hard to work with.

It will need some attachment plates welding to the frame to pick up the bolt holes whilst avoiding the clutch master cylinder and the servo mounted on the engine side whilst the cockpit side does not foul the pedals or steering column that exits below the plate.

    So it is tacked together...

You will notice the one mistake easily and the second mistake is harder to spot ?

So I show my work warts and all , I am of the school if you don't make mistakes you don't make any think ! [ good job you say ]

So one 10" stub is welded to the bottom of the side pieces and one to the side ?

After some more measuring of course it is the one with the decent welds that is wrong and needs cutting free and rewelding not the one with cr*p welds ? where I seemed to have no gas flowing for some reason.

Other mistake is I marked the verticals with and outside to show where I had cleaned the mating surfaces only to proceed to take them together with that script on the inside , so more cleanup required.

One think I am not fluent in is inside corner welds [ not many on a bicycle/tricycle ] , so should get plenty of practice with this piece

off in to garage to cut the offend piece off and tack it in the right place....

I have not planned on triangulating this , I was hoping a 1.5mm plate on the engine side plug welded about every 3" where it touches will be enough ?

    regards Paul

    Hah, easily done.
I'd try to get at least one diagonal in somewhere as that has no sideways strength in it. The angled bits around the gearbox will help though.

As shown you are right , however this was the plan ?

I have not planned on triangulating this , I was hoping a 1.5mm plate on the engine side plug welded about every 3" where it touches will be enough ?

Will that not triangulate the corners enough ?

Probably a silly answer , however I am way out of my comfort zone with scratch building cars ? bicycles are really my thing...

    regards Paul

if you wanted you could stitch weld the plate to the box frame on that side as well as the plug welds engine side.
need a job done on your project? i may be able to help.

Sorry - missed the 1.5mm plate - yes that will be ok.
Ref corner welds - 'stitch' as you weld, left/right, left/right a few mm either way.
