Uncles surprise 50Th birthday present, lets make it into a monster!

Another one for the for the garage, we picked up this little gem for my uncle for his 50th on Monday and promptly decided to go for as much power as we can afford for it. I know it's not a rod as such but it's pretty retro and for me that's what counts. She's a little innocent Opel Kadett C 1200s coupe at the minute but not for long! we're thinking Nissan SR20DET or RB25DET but if we get lucky maybe an RB26DETT from a Skyline GT-R. Here's a few pic's of the tear down before we start the tunning.

She looked really straight but there was a lot of worm hidden by filler and paint.

Sweet as.... I'd do a Nissan 200sx motor with a manual trans from the same.Axle could be a Viva/Firenza 2300 as it shouldn't be far off size wise for that Kadett. Lower about 2" and away with the mixer.
    Good luck with the build

I put a Fiat twin cam in one of those years ago. It was an easy swap, the weights of the engines were very similar. We uprated the brakes and suspension and it made a great little car for not much work.

Cheers lads, we are looking for 400+hp if we can get it so the fiat is out the window. I'm leaning toward the SR20 myself, she will be so fast and drivable with that set up I think!

for 400+ hp, use saab or volvo engines. search for some swedish guys, they gr crazy with kadett coupe's.
B234T of B204T saab blocks can handle 450 HP on stoch crank/rods/pistons and they fit to the opel manta 1.8 bellhouse, wich in turn can take bmw gearbox
B230FT of een B200FT are the good volvo blocks, 2.3 ltr turbo wich can easily be tuned to round 500hp on stock crank and already good gearbox for rwd.
lots of those guys weld use volvo rears too cause they can handle loads of power.
the opel CiH engines are just to damn heavy and expensive to get power from.

Ah,but he's in Ireland which hasn't got a great stock of Volvo turbo engines i'd imagine, where as in Sweden there will be a lot
The Nissan engine/trans is good for over 400hp stock. Just bolt on a bigger turbo/manifold and intercooler and away you go. Would be a great daily driver too!
It would be a little rocket with that combo.

400 HP in a kadett is way more than enough, they are pretty lightweight had several of them, from 60 to 320Hp (manta400 motor) and the 320 was pretty ghard to keep on the road.

Nissan or Toyota running gear is the way forward over here, there is a big jap and drift tunning scene over here and I've got a good bit of experience with it. The Volvo stuff looks awesome but that stuff would be non existent over here where as the ease of getting power and parts for the jap stuff just makes it a no brainer.

hehe, thats the way to go than. its the other way around here, volvo and saabs for few hundred quit as complete car while nissans are axpensive ditch the 1200 rear, that doesnt hold more than 75-80 Hp engines. GT/E rear )good up till 400Hp)would be easiest fit, expensive though. volvo are no go for you as i understand. but any live rear would do if you fit 4link.

ow, the crisp spots on your car arent that bad, actualy quite good for a kadett
