Probably a Dana 30. Not the strongest Dana but remember these are standard fitment to many strait six jeeps and I see a beemer straight six in the parts list so no problem. If the owner wanted more strength later on many fine aftermarket suppliers of stronger diffs and axles etc.

    i think its a dana 35.

anyways as this is having air suspension,a slighly different front end design.

we found some small 4" diameter bags, but as were unsure how they will work out,ive made the fixing points so they can take different size bags.the lower plate can also be redone very simply,if we have to adjust ride height once the cars finished

Wayne , this is going to be the best work van ever , hopefully the owner doesn’t change the exterior paint scheme, just imagine turning up at a customers and dropping the van to the floor, wish I had one with ladders on the roof and paint dribbling from the rear doors, anyway back to reality, you will produce great work as usually, keep it coming mate , cheers

mocking everything up on the table.ive progressed past this stage, but lack pictures.

one thing with the bmw engine,is its actually quite wide,so may have to stick out the side of the bonnet a little

Thatíll be a shame if it has to. They do have a major slant to them engines personally not a big lover of them for reliability reasons mainly head gasket issues but the do rip when they get past 3 grand.

were not talking much.it may be 20mm. its really hard trying to reference it to the van. the van is outside on the ramp, complete,so im building the chassis by taking measurements.usually i would have the body on the table and build to that.

if im lucky, the engine will just tuck in under the wing lip bit. if im even luckier, the body will fit the chassis, lol.

biggest problem is because its on air,i cant lower the engine to much,as the sump would hit the floor on,drop.

the engines out of a 330.

im not up on them.aparently there a common swap engine.also cheap and plentiful,so easier just to do another swap if it blows up.should go well though in a lightish car.

further investigation on the axle, turns out its a dana 44hd

Good news on the axle then as the 44 is much stronger than the 30 series. Re the engine. It most definitely will go well in fact itíll fly in the lightweight van. The problem with the gasket isnít so much the head or the gasket the main problem is the block. When you remove the head bolts and go to re torque them it is a 50/50 chance the the threads in the block will strip. Going back a few years to the last one I did it was major money for another engine but these days they are an old unit so probably as you say cheap to replace.
Hopefully it will all fit fine. And Iím sure itíll be an amazing little van when finished
