    EUROPEAN BUILT CKD CARS cont'd

I've read the thread over there but haven't seen the pics so any that could be posted here would be great!

Our '55 Bel Air convertible and '60 Impala are both French cars with the 'Paris' plate on the firewall but as far as I understood export convertibles were still actually built in Tarrytown NY!

When Alex eventually logs on, he has some great pics of these 2 cars at The Goodwood Festival of Speed in '05 for the 50th Anniversary of the sbc which we laid on for them - the Class was our idea actually!

I bought a car from Jackie, a '55 Delray Club Coupe, I can't remember if it was of US Manufacture or European Assembly. I would think it would have been US, '55 DCCs are pretty unusual, it was probably a personal import.

Have you all seen Bob's photos of the trip on the other side?

    Swiss Nova

Here is my 62' Nova Conv. Built Switzerland sold new in Austria and stayed there until early 2000's bought by German Classic car dealer friend of mine who of course had me over for it
Has stock US vin plate in correct location PLUS this one on inner wing.

onehot t has pic (used on the other side) of Mavis's red 57' conv which has the same swiss vin plate

Stew, Did they ever actually build cars in France ????????

I thought I would repost this that I posted on the other Forum (edited)

    http://www.jon-n-bevliles.net/RAILRO.../ra-061355.pdf

This link is about the Erie Railroad (we're all trainspotters anyway) but describes the Bloomfield Plants operations and which countries GM assembled cars in.

My '57 210 4dr Sedan was assembled in Switzerland in 1958! It was 6 cylinder, 3 the tree and no wind splits. I sold it to a 'Classic Car' dealer who sold it on to an odd sort of chap. Well he complains to the dealer that it's a '58 not a '57, so the dealer sends him round to see me! I patiently show him pictures of '57s and '58s but he is still not convinced.

I think but am not 100% sure, when you read the Factory Assembly Manual (we all do in bed every night, don't we) it often has the acronym 'CKD Bloomfield' which I think means 'completely knocked down' I think Bloomfield is a New Jersey plant and the CKD refers to how the parts were shipped overseas.
