That would have been on the roof of what was Fibre Glass Repairs, where they built all the bodies for the SPR cars.

The Yank spares place in Beckenham would have been the original Dick's Place, run by Dick Lawrence.
Nostalgia, it ain't what it used to be!

Hi Mr T longtime no hear

I thought the american place had "American" in the title could it of been American Speed Spare or something ?

And yet again my shyness prevented me from asking questions about the body on the roof

I only found out the other day that the lonsdale flopper that was in the VW dealer at Catford belonged to stu vallance even at a young age i knew of HH and him would of loved to of met him to talk cars mind you i was VERY young and he would of thought that i was a :****er:

I may be thinking of a different place then, as Dick's Place would have been waaay back in the 60/70s. American Speed & Spares sounds like Jim Blackburn's place in Upper Norwood?

Yes, Stu Vallance owned the VW dealership at the time, handy place to store a racecar between meetings! I did a deal with my local Ford dealership when I had my Consul & stored it in their workshop, after they had it in their showroom during the winter.

Jim Blackburn of American Speed was first in Beckenham in Thayers Farm Road, got lots of photos and video clips of Jim.
