I remember at Le Mans years ago a bloke giving joyrides around the campsite in a nicely built Bugatti Type 35 replica. Chatting to him he said it was based on bits from a Jaguar S Type ('60s one) and it was still registered as a Jaguar, despite new chassis etc.
Aren't there 'grandfather' rights on this, if you could prove it was built many years ago? Could you change the V5c in increments? Would anybody care, providing the rest of it's legal - it's a replica of a very old car, built on the remains of another old car current before most of today's police officers were born. A victimless crime. I think they're more concerned about stolen Range Rovers with a load of contraband in the back.
There was a (poorly advertised at the time) amnesty for incorrectly registered kit cars etc in 1998 iirc) prior to the introduction of SVA, you may stand a chance of getting dvla to play ball if you've got documentary proof, old MOT's, tax discs, magazine features etc but as with all dealings with them, it'd all be down to who in Swansea opened your envelope.
There are unofficial Grandfather Rights .I have saved many from having to go though SVA / BIVA BUT the outcome will always be based on the rules in place at the PROVEN / NOTIFIED tim eof change ie before 85 you won't get a Q plate because they didn't exist .After 85 and before 98 you woudl have received a Q plate WITHOUT and SVA test .
After that date it should have been sent for test and that is what will occur now.
However these require all notifiable changes to 'your' vehicle to be entered as they occured. If the chnages weren't notified they never occured .They also require ( mostly) the vehicle to still be as registered ie a heavily modified Ford Pop is STILL a Ford Pop or a Mk 2 Zephyr to still look like it's description.
They also require some basis in reality and a rod on a monococque book has none.
so....... it may be prudent to stamp a made up 'chassis number' somewhere discreet so if it's ever impounded you can insure it on said number to be able to collect it before it's crushed. at least you've covered your arse, you keep the car and then 'only' have to put it through a biva test. just an idea.
ps i sent you a pm.
