The main point of the question and why I asked was what if a chassis was repaired in a certain way legally where new rails or repair sections are not readily available or hard to recreate in a om factory way .
    It's only metal and any chassis section can be recreated fairly easily using the methods you suggest for example. There's not a good reason to repair the chassis incorrectly, especially only one side. Neil.

    I had 1 for 25 years, welded most of it in that time. easy to shape cos its not very thick

    Snap, had a few over the yr's learnt to drive in one 30+ years ago and still have one stashed in a shed luckily with a mint chassis .
    as said earlier I'm not touching the car if I did it would be done right.
