    If i have a car thats registered march 1981 when or if will it become historical tax and mot free thank you

    but.... dvla round up the exemptions to the end of the year not the month/day they were originally registered. so currently anything reg'd in 1979 is exempt but anything reg'd during 1980 isn't exempt 'til jan 1st 2021.

    I think you need to wait until 01/01/22.

    As it seems to be from the 1st of January, rather a specific 40 years.

    By chance, my donor car is April 1980, but I have to wait until 01/01/21.

    So even though it is now 40 years old, it doesn't match this year's rules.
