MOT Exemption (VHI) and new V5C ????

If I tax a car at the PO and use Form V112 to declare MOT exemption does this automatically trigger a new V5C showing the car as VHI rather than PLG? Or do I have to apply for a new V5C separately?

    Thank you

Went through this recently as in the old days - PO keeps the log book and sends it to DVLA and it comes back as 'historic' instead of PLG.

yep, vhi is to do with mot exempt not tax exempt. even if it's as they say 'substantially altered' and needs an mot it'll still be tax exempt so 'historic' on the v5c.
    neil.

    This is quite confusing.
Should it say VHI in the V5c or will it still say Historic?
Just over a week ago I had an inspection on my 61 Lincoln
on Saturday I recieved my V5c and it is Taxed till May 2020 with no MOT provided,
My V5c shows taxation class Historical am I MOT exempt or not?
I have the same thing with my 67 Galaxie and I declared that upon taxing it online.

Mot and tax are TOTALLY different rules !

To be MOT exempt the short version is only lightly modified is fine ( except steering ), different make/marque engine and you need an MOT .

FULL requirements to be mOT exempt are here https://assets.publishing.service.go...e-guidance.pdf

Historic is the taxation class so that is what will remain on the V5C. VHI is the MOT classification but that will not appear on any of your official documents.

Could you please clarify what you meant when you put the words, (except steering).

What words? Where do you want to put them?

In his post kapri wrote ( except steering). I am asking why he highlighted steering as I didn't know it was a special case.
