    Pickups and Road Access

I wasnt sure whether to put this in Chat, Rants or on here!

The other day I had to go down to Surrey Quays for a survey job and the route took me through the Rotherhithe Tunnel. As I used to live in the area it was a route that I knew well and didnt give it a second thought.
But hey this morning a fixed penalty arrived from Transport for London sayng that I have conravened the tunnel regulations and they want to charge me £130 because my car is a goods vehicle over 2 Tonnes max gross weight. I am appealing on the grounds that my truck (Ford Ranger Double Cab) is a Dual Purpose Vehicle and not a Goods Vehicle.
    Any thoughts?

What does it class it as on the V5? A dual purpose vehicle has to be below 2040kg unladen weight which I doubt yours is. Good luck with the bunch of arses that work for raghead Khan.

Taxation class is Light Goods Vehicle, the V5C gives the maximum and revenue weights as 2845 kg and the mass in service (which I think is unladen weight) is 1785 kg (the truck is a Mazda based M2 so that sounds about right)
according to the DVLA website my truck conforms to all of the criteria of a Dual Purpose vehicle.
I will appeal so see what happens

How things change! I remember, back in the world before cameras, I had a Dodge wrecker and towed a 3.5 tonne Transit back throught there. There were signs, but as far as I was concerned, by then it was too late for me to turn back! F*ck knows how much I'd be fined for doing that now. Although, for that, I'd probably be shot at dawn....

To the OP, in your position I don't think you're ever going to win with TFL, so you're probably best to pay it, especially if there's a prompt payment discount, and then spend some time trying to think of a way to screw them over to make yourself feel better.

yep, i'd agree and pay now. your appeal will get you outside the possibility of a prompt payer discount so then you'll pay the full amount. lesson learnt and move on.
    neil.
need a job done on your project? i may be able to help.

With most fines etc launching an appeal freezes the clock on early payment discounts.

That's how I understand it and I have sent in an appeal stating that as a dual purpose vehicle it does not come under the speed restrictions of a goods vehicle and shouldn't come under the access restrictions either so watch this space!
Interesting how this affects other pickups that are not on historic...
