    Q plate New Chassis

Would fitting a new and complete chassis to a monocoque body shell still count as a new chassis for registration purposes or would I just end up with a modified monocoque which would attract a Q plate? Would the vehicle need to be build in such a way that the body was detachable from the new chassis? I am thinking of a Morris Minor here.

    Any comments much appreciated.

To qualify for donor related reg on a monococque you CAN use a totally seperate chassis with REMOVABLE body ( new or used).

Just out of interest if you modify a monocoque (convert saloon to pickup etc) but leave everything else stock (from the same car) can you get age related?

I know that you wouldn't be able to have the original registration but I was wondering if you could go to BIVA and still have an age related ( presuming you used a car recent enough to deal with most of the requirements)

The only way to get an age appropriate registration on a monococque is to mount it on a new chassis OR to use a brand new from OEM body and alter before reg .This may still be an issue for DVLA due to not understanding their own regs . The reason a modified monococque ( or second hand chassis ) get a Q is because it has already had an identity once NOT because it is modified.

Thanks for clearing that up Kevin. it was hypothetical anyway (Im not going to cut my Zodiac into a pickup) I was thinking that it was the modification that was the issue and not the id...
