    Rebody quetions

How complete does a rebody have to be before the required paperwork goes to dvla?, does it need to be running driveing or just a body on the chassis, in this case a sherpa chassis, so they can see what it will look like, will it need to inspected like a kit car does?, Mot?, thanks Moon

Good question, because it's probably about time I did mine.
Don't think they need 'inspection' as such, more just a check of chassis numbers & size etc.

So far all the ones I've dealt with have NOT been inspected , at least not since LOs closed. However they are easily confused so only send in the basic 3 photos and general info . Only had one turned down ( that shouldn't have been) and that was because of too many photos. Had to BEG to get SGS out to see it had been done correctly.

When Davida did his pop to ‘50s style sports special the body was only resting in place on top of paint cans and held in place with duct tape and that got through, as it looked right.
As Kev says 3 photos only!

296moon – Looks like you have got lots of good advice already.

But if it helps, here are the two photos I supplied to the DVLA to get my V5C changed…

In the first one, the new body shell is simply resting in place.
(This camera angled matched another photo I supplied of the unmodified rolling chassis underneath.)

This was the photo with the original donor car’s number plate in place.
(If you look closely, you can see the rear lights are simply stuck on with tape.)

My argument was that the car no longer looked like the Triumph Spitfire on the V5C.
Therefore, even though it was SORN at this point I wanted the V5C to reflect the car I was building.

Note - Initially, the DVLA wrote back and said I needed an MOT before they would change the V5C.
But they were applying the new/first registration rules, not the rebody of an existing registration ones.
Using the 8 Point Rule, I could keep the donor registration and change the V5C without IVA/Inspection/MOT.
(All the information that Kapri/Kev has posted about this over the years was a really big help to me. )

    Good luck, Paul.
