Iím just starting design and build of a reverse trike which Iím doing on the basis of it going through MSVA for registration.
Donor bike will provide frame, engine, swingarm and rear wheel and my plan is to design the front frame of the trike such that the bike bolts in, including the head stock. So no welding. Once on the road I will then convert to electric.
Iíve built a number of kit cars, some pre and post SVA/IVA, some radically altered vehicles that didnít require anything other than an MOT and V5 changes (V671), also done a couple of EV/electric conversions including motorbikes which Iíve been able to successfully change fuel type and tax class with DVLA.
With the trike Iíve been told by a couple of other builders if the bike frame is complete and bolts into the trike frame (Not welded) you can retain the reg of the bike but you can also do this without an MSVA - just going through the radically altered kit car route.
Anyone familiar with this - I canít see it myself as you would be changing wheel plan from 2 to 3 but they tell me itís possible in the past so long as the bike can be returned to its original state if ever needed by unbolting from the trike frame? May be this was a loophole now closed (I know the registered disabled trike loop hole was closed I think recently).
