not everyone agrees but i've said for years they should put the 'road' tax on fuel so the more you drive the more you pay. but i guess that's way too fair to people who don't drive and damage the roads much so wouldn't do at all.
    neil.
It's all being done subtley Neil As said it hasn't been 'Road Tax' for years , only to us old uns that remember it that way They haven't done DD out of the goodness of their hearts and for OUR benefit . Just like doing away with the tax disc is about breaking the mental link that once you instal that you HAVE paid for your road use .

The transfer of 'road tax' to fuel was muted way back in the late 70's , not that long after DVLA fully opened up . Civil Service union fought it all the way and it was shelved.

Just like closing all those LOs was supposed to be for OUR benefit .

The only issues I see with the tax on fuel is :-

#1 We all ready pay fuel duty.

#2 It would be so much easier to "rape" us. For instance if your car does 30MPG and you average 12,000 miles a year, by my maths, a 10p per litre increase would cost an extra £182.40 per year. You would be up in arms about such a hike in VED, but 10p per litre?

Exactly . How much would that be a month on DD ? We , as consumers are being conditioned that cost is only what you pay monthly rather than overall
