i'm not cutting up my precious AK's for that!!

I've got an old chevy throttle pedal (floor pivot type) which i was going to try to use , along with some form of swivel/pivot/whatever to get the right "direction of movement" if that makes sense?
I didn't really want a hand lever, the steering is pretty sharp and i didn't want him taking his hand off the wheel to go looking for a lever.

Mind you, I do have a couple of spare Ak magazines in the shed......

The lads doing well to build that whilst being attacked by a swarm of bees! Seriously, top stuff, that looks a lot of fun.

    Taff

    The day after tomorrow

made a start on the brakes today, some left over bike calipers

just needed something to hang them off.
half-heartedly tried wood at first, but it just didn't seem strong enough

so i tried to triangulate it for a bit more strength

but it wasn't really flicking my switch. then i rememberd that wood is for homo's and girls, so i threw it away and got out the box section and tried again

    thats better

yes, i am wearing day-glo yellow trainers while using an angle grinder

bolted down. i'll pick up some cables tomorrow and try to figure out a pedal mechanism. any suggestions?
also, any suggestions on how to tidy it up, make more of a feature of it?

    Taff

    day whatever : more steering

I was right, I can't leave it alone

thought a bit about what Ratty said about using bike bits, and had a rummage in the scrap pile. Found this:-

which is the forks stem bearing and carrier. so using a holesaw, I cut a recess into the underside of the front axle deep enough for it to sit snug

and fitted the other half of the carrier to the floor of the kart.

bolted the two together, and the turn lovely, no binding at all

that just left the steering arm to put "right", so I used this:-

which is the 1st/reverse gear slector rod from the column change of a 1950 chevy pick up.
    cut and shut to size

    Fits lovely

just some brakes to fit now.
I'm going to use bike caliper brkes on the two rear wheels, and run the cables under the floor to a foot pedal. somehow
