Great news... Truck now running well after a new ECM! Didn't bother buying 2 nod hand. Ended up buying a refurbished and reprogrammed unit along with a simple ignition only loom.... Brilliant setup. Just waiting for a new VSS sensor and she's back on god road. Result!

Thank you all for your input.

    It's Frothy Man
If you need a spare pair of hands to diagnose, just give me a bell.

    Hi Kev

According to the Just Answer link you sent my ECU is faulty. Makes sense as I have tried just about everything else... Will keep you posted with progress.

    Many thanks

From the info above I'd be looking at what creates the initial pulse, not just the hard components but also the wiring , possible solder joint drying out as it gets hotter . Does it use a TDC sensor as part of that system?
  • 20-03-2014, 08:02
That's about right, Paul. The ignition control module in the dizzy controls the initial pulse to the injectors until the rpm hits 300, then the ECU takes over. By making the engine fire from fuel in the throttle body I'm guessing the engine hits the target 300 rpm so the ECM then kicks in.

I've eliminated the ICM from my investigations as I have already replaced it and to be certain have put the dizzy from my Vette in and it still does the same..

There is 12 volts to all injectors even when hot in the key on position but no pulse when cranking, which is not right.

    Hi Paul

It will run forever from a cold start, and will restart with no issues until the temperature hits about 120c. Then it will not restart without squirting fuel into the plenum. Have not checked the oil pressure as it does not have a gauge takeoff..

Noted in your reply that the injectors have no power when cranking ,would have thought that was wrong ,is it that the cold start injector works when cold and starting and gets the car to start and the other injectors take over because you move the key from start to run so injectors then work, but when warm the cold start injector will not work because engine is up to temp so no fuel is getting to engine ,so you put fuel down throttle body to get engine to fire then injectors take over when key is in run position.
When engine is cold Key in start position no power to normal injectors, only cold injector which gets engine to run till key goes to run position
When engine is warm Key in start position no injectors have power including cold injector as engine warm. Will not run till fuel in throttle body .

Does it start if cold ,ie start run for about a min from cold then stop then start does it then run .Also what is oil pressure when hot.

I'll check tomorrow to see if the diagnostic connection is there.. Thanks.
