Looks excellent (as usual)
brackets are very neat. are they laser cut
coming along nicely
Hi Guys . Thank you for the comments .
This weekends progress.
I have redesigned the rear x member to give better clearance for the diff.
All finished .
I decided to give the bags a little more clearance around the chassis legs ( to be honest I don't think it was needed, but just in case )
the rear bags don't expand too much !!.
I cut out the inner part of the leg and welded in a 20mm relief section.
X member propped in position .
Then finished off the other 4 bar bracket .
Good to see progress again. One of the images though is repeated 3 times, showing the first 4 bar mock up.
Hi Guys,not much to report.
I made up some templates for my local laser cutting company …………………(.that was months ago !!!!!!!!!!!!!.) to get the grille surround and grille bars cut I finally got them back .I will post some pics when I start on this job ,to be honest i'm not looking forward to this task .
While waiting for the laser cutting I got on with another job . I needed to make the panels that cover the access holes in the truck bed .
They are not finished yet but this is work so far .
While the truck bed was off of the chassis I thought it was time to get the rear suspension moved on a bit .First I made up the 4 bar brackets and positioned them roughly in place
I also made up a mock up cross member to mount the air bags
Next it was the lower air bag mounts .This job was a little tricky as the axle has been narrowed and centred which means the diff housing is off set .So I started with the side with the least room !!.
This piece is the closing piece for the underside ,this gets welded in after the air bag bracket is welded to the axle .
Hopefully I will get the other side to the same stage tomorrow .
Hi Guys, nothing exiting just a slight cock up . While waiting for my grille bars to be laser cut , I thought I would start at the front and try and finish all the little left over jobs before I pull it all apart for blocking and paint ( still got to finish the chassis but that's for later.
So my cock up, I fitted the N/S front fender and inner fender panel .All fitting as it should , moved onto the O/S and started looking for the inner fender panel after much searching it dawned on me ………………..you idiot ……….you haven't made it !!!!!!!!!.
So todays task ……..make inner fender panel.
I am in the same boat as you with my custom pickup build. Years of hard metal shaping work that I don't want to risk on doing the paint myself. It will be the only thing I going to farm out for the whole project.
