Trans is very likely to be a TH400 and the carb is a racy double pumper but I can't read the numbers.
Rear ballast will make it more driveable in the short term.
The long term solution for the trans is a 4l80E which is an overdrive TH400 but won't be cheap.

I know too little about these things to make comments on engines etc, despite just having started tear down on my 1966 C10 Short Fleetside. Thread in the Garage section below this Showroom section where a lot more mechanical stuff is discussed.
The only change I would make is to remove the stickers on the loadbed to make it more of a sleeper, despite the power bulge.

Thought I'd put up a few pics of my new ride. And was hoping some of you could help me to work exactly what I have got here, but any comments welcome.
What I know about it:
It's a 1973 Chevy C10 Cheyenne Super
With a Big Block V8 454 (7.4L) producing about *640bhp
3 speed auto transmission
Imported from Texas about 6 months ago.
*I was told it was producing 504bhp at the rear wheels, one of my recent vehicles was a 580bhp Audi RS6 - obviously completely different animals - but I'd definitely say the Chevy has more power. Plugging 504bhp at the rears into a online calculator thing - it came back with 640bhp in the crank!
At the moment it seems to be set up as drag racer. The importer told me back in Texas it was doing a 1/4 Mile is 11.5 seconds, which I'm to believe is pretty damn fast. Personally I don't know how they managed to get the power down..... I'm thinking softer (maybe slick) rubber on the rears - and maybe some sand bags in the back too. In it's current set up - if your going along @ 70mph and you punch the throttle to the floor it will spin the rears up no problem!! The throttle response is simply incredible. It does like to rev very high through the rears - which is fine if your going for it - but not so good for a slow trip round town. Also the exhaust ends just behind the middle of the truck - so is very loud - fine if your giving it the beans, or ticking over at the lights - but if you've got an early start in the morning and your neighbors will not be your biggest fan.
For these 2 reasons I would consider selling it if there is someone out there looking for this kind of C10 drag racer.
When I get a bit more time - I will look into extending the pipes to the end of the truck, and changing the transmission.
Some questions I have:
- Details on the transmission? How (if possible) do I find out what it's running? Anyone have a best guess? For the power it's running without any problems - I can't imagine there are that many options. Also anyone a have a "regular" transmission they want to sell that can handle this kind of power?
- Details on the holley carb? If you look at the pics there are a few numbers stamped on the side of the carb - anyone know the model/spec?
- Are there any special services/checks I should be doing? I had planned to change the engine oil and filter very soon. And if I kept it for while I was going to look into replacing the transmission oil and filter (if it had one).
- Ohh , and whats the "Cheyenne Super" all about? Is it suppose to be a higher spec model or something?
