Same thing happend with my lad when he had a Neon, cosmetic alterations and we modified the **** out of the engine and suspension. I told him to declare it all as he was always getting pulled and the insuance went down from the standard vehicle, go figure!

I remember when Flux pretty much had the monopoly on modified insurance.

I think I used insurance in motion for my chop in 1979. Stock drive train. Coupla years later fitted a stock V6 no worries, if it would of been a twin carb 4 pot mill thru the roof !?

I remember trying to insure my 1100cc MG Midget at 22 and being told that they didn't insure "high performance cars". As a contrast, my sister today told me she was following a learner driver in a driving school Cooper S - what's that all about?

I remember when any mod at all even cosmetic made anything uninsurable.

Untill I had a 1600cc series one LandRover, insured with NFU for peanuts, then I stuck in a modded Rover V8, very early days for doing that sort of thing.

Called NFU and nice lady asked why I put such a powerful engine in and I told her it was to make towing a horse box easier.

Ok they said, no change in the premium, no engineers report, we'll send you a new certificate in the post.

That LR did 115 mph (recalibrated 150mph speedo) with the door tops off, gearboxes lasted 10k miles if I was lucky!

Years later LR brought out their V8 Nintety and my premium suddenly shot up because there was now a category to put it in, couldn't really complain though.
