    My two pennerth ...

Tastes & opinions vary, of course ... but there can be no doubting the fact that to last 50 years in the Music Biz, the Band have what it takes.

Born in '59, I was young when my older sister first mentioned their name. No doubt which side of the fence she was on in the Beatles v Stones.

I never saw it as a 'competition',- any more than other Bands of the time ... The Who , The Kinks included. They all have their individual styles.

Saw them Live once (Maine Road, '91 Urban Jungle if my memory serves). They have produced some memorable music & I take my hat off to 'em.

A few personal favourites : Gimme Shelter // Paint It, Black // Miss You // Satisfaction // The Last Time // Emotional Rescue // etc.

Brilliant craftsmen of their trade and brilliant showmanship
I don't know of many bands that haven't been influenced in some way by The Stones and the The Stones' influences are/were legendary too.

    Crazy Diamond
    "Mike" Jagger

    Taken straight from her autobiography:-

"The Mars Bar was a very effective piece of demonizing," she wrote. "It was far too jaded for any of us even to have conceived of. It's a dirty old man's fantasy -- some old **** who goes to a dominatrix every Thursday afternoon to get spanked. A cop's idea of what people do on acid!"

    Crazy Diamond
The Stones have provided some great songs:-
    Start Me Up
    Brown Sugar
    Honky Tonk Woman
    Tumbling Dice
Not the greatest guitar player our Keef favouring the 5 string variation of open G but has written some classic riffs on the above songs.
Mick Taylor was a better guitarist but old Ronnie Wood fitted in well.

Have to agree with Poncho tho that the Kinks were up there and vastly underrated.

"It's Only Rock & Roll" but we like it

    Big Joe
Saw the Stones at Wembley about 82 (i think) suport bands were Black ahuru and J Giels Band. When Black Ururu were on it was raining, When J Giels came out the rain stopped, When the Stones came on the sun came out and a message came on the big screen that England had just won the football. Couldnt have made it up QUALITY.

I may have, but I must have bought them from you. I'm surprised Odgie hasn't chipped in yet!!!!

Perhaps we should look at starting up a residential home for old **** hotrodders.

The place would be oversubscribed and we could all tell each other tall tales.

Hang on, that's a bit like here I guess.
