    we had a few hrs today so we made the rear axle brake pipes and hung the axle etc in place.

    we welded the shock pockets into the floor, then added a 1" tube that welds to the inner arches, the shock pockets and the seat back braces. we like belt and braces. i got the underside coated with a couple of layers of shutz (this lives outside and will be scott's daily) while scott removed the gearbox and handbrake crossmembers, got them painted and the shifter greased too. reassembly starts tomorrow then we can finish the escort disc brake swap on the front.

    oh and the diff tunnel is made and welded in to clear the prop and obviously diff. and the exhaust now runs behind the sill under the floor so it won't catch on speed bumps.

    the axle's out for final welding and paint. the 4 link's painted. also the chassis is plated with 2mm plate inside, out and underneath as well as a 2" 'c' notch for more travel. we welded bump stop brackets inside the rails for a real feeling of luxury last job before the underside's shutzed is to weld in the upper shock pockets we've made, these let the top of the shock go up inside the car so they don't bottom with the new 'c' notches.

    we got the shifter brackets, propshaft and new rear tunnel made last night. also scott's mate terry came up and recovered the seats and made and covered new door cards for him. after all scott roadstered his minor a few weeks back so it was only fair.

    today we fitted the new gearbox crossmember. tube type as seen on rods with a polybush mount. also started to mount the hurst competition plus shifter to the side of the box.

    it's cheap, available and has a better ratio (stock is 4.44:1!).
