Try and find a late 70's early 80's Cadillac and take the front and rear ends out of that. That will give you discs all around, a decent stud pattern for cool wheels, PAS and a much nicer ride height.
I did it to my old '56 and it drove great.

Thanks for that Stuart, I was vaguely aware of a 4x4 series 2 (mine is 2 aswell) but disgarded that option cos of their rarity and lack of coming with discs etc... Very interesting point about the ride height though, don't really want it up there^ ! I think a more conventional upgrade could be on the cards... Thanks again... Terry

Is your truck a 55 first or second series? Chevrolet did a model of the second series truck which had 4 x 4 using NAPCO hardware. This truck had a tall ride height in order to get the live front axle under the chassis. I think you might have the same issue using pretty much any 4 x 4 hardware which has a live front axle.

    55 Chevy pickup 4x4

Hi everyone, I run a '55 Chevy pick-up which has an Isuzu engine and box, all working fine running the rear wheels at the moment but i'm considering a 4x4 conversion, i.e fit a pair of axles from something which is similar width, has disc brakes, power steering and possibly left hand drive to ease the steering part of the conversion... The output from my gearbox is on the o/s... My suspension is all standard at the moment... Failing that i'm also considering the more conventional suspension upgrade route, i.e front clip, mustang ll and a 10 bolt with a lsd... Any advice on suitable donor cars for these bits much appreciated or if you know anyone selling something suitable i'd love to hear, many thanks, Terry
