    105e Back axle

Can anyone advise me on this back axle
I am building my son his first hotrod a 1953 pop, which while be powered by a 1500 spitfire engine.
I have a viva front end with 2.8 capri vented discs and XR3 breakes.
We have been offered two 105e back axles one is from i think a 997 power plant and the other is from a 1200 power plant. The 997 is complete, but the one from the 1200 is missing the break drums and some wheel studs.
My question is which one of these would be best or dose it not matter, and are there other break drums that will fit this such as escort or cortina ?

If neither axle has been mucked around with, the 997 will have a 4.44:1 diff, the 1200 will have a 4.1:1. This is a general rule, you might get some smarty bottom pipe up with options for estates etc, but it's a good guide. Just about any Fords drum set ups will fit, you often have to redrill the backing plates though & rotate them on the axle case to get the handbrake linkages to line up. If you use Capri brakes, you have to mix & match a bit as the halfshaft offset's a little out from memory. Corsair or Cortina GT used to be the hot set up as they have 9" brakes, they're not cheap anymore though.

The wheel studs aren't a problem, they're the same across the whole range as long as they're Imperial, I've got gobloads here if you get stuck, think I've got some Anglia/Mk1 Cortina brakes somewhere too. PM me if you get stuck.

Edit, Just seen where you are, I work out of Manor Royal so could drop the studs in to you.
How'd the weekend go? Well, at the moment it looks like a dolphin that's been caught in a boats propeller.

1200 drums are wider than 997 , certainly on the front , not sure about the back though , it's been a long time since I mucked about with stock Anglia parts. I may have some drums in the garage. The rally boys used to want the 4.44:1 diffs & would pay good money for them at one time. It might be worth noting that van axles are about 1.5" wider than saloon & the half shafts are not interchangeable although the diffs are.
No longer selling anything Hot Rod related. Not on this site anyway. Don't bother searching Ebay either, they got too greedy.........
