What sort of revs is it pulling at 70mph ? Someties it is all down to perception , with using a 3 speed auto, after running a 5 or 6 speed manual daily , or overdriven auto.

my dragster has 4.88 gears in it and its a stock axle ratio..(12 bolt chevy)
dont know what it came off though.

just got some 4.11s for it, should give it more "legs".

    what ratio are yours?.

Pretty standard mixed performance gearing, for a Yank to be honest at 22mph/ 1000 rpm roughly. 24mph would see 2900 rpm at 70 ( or 2.8 at 67) . 25mph would see 75 at 3000 or about 2800 at 67mph though that's quite tall with a TRUE ( ignore the speedo ) top of 137 at 5500.

A 5 speed box woudl give you the best of both worlds with gearing of around 28mph/1000 rpm in top but with the same performance in lower gears.

Others who run Yanks can probably give you more of a rear world scenario of what mph/1000rpm means in reality.

What gearing you require to achieve it if keeping the 4 speed depends on your tyre height.

How tall are your tyres Sid ? As it stands it should make roughly 3 mph/1000 rpm taller in top . 4.11 on 31 inch tall tyres gives about 22 mph /1000.

Ill do a bit more digging and write down RPM at speeds up to 70 in all gerars and see how that pans out.

If you measure the tyre as well Russ we should be able to figure out what you have in there already.
