    12 volt conversion.

Hi, my 53 Chevy runs on 6 volts and still has all original wiring. Any suggestions as to where i can pick up a kit to change it up to 12 volts? Many thanks.

My advice would be to rip out all the old wiring and put a new loom in. There are plenty of looms around.........I hear Langy's are good. You can get voltage reducers for the gauges and heater. Any small alternator will do as your electrical requirements are minimal. You might need a 12 volt starter though..........I think the later 235 will fit, but I'm sure someone will come along and confirm (or not)

If you have two 6 Volt Batteries in series or a 12 Volt with exposed straps technically the 6 Volt starter could be retained.

I run my truck ( 54 F100 with flat 8 ) on 12 volts, still using the 6v starter without any problems
Just don't hang on the starter for too long
