1965 Vauxhall Victor wagon, Tranmission oil seal

    Hello guys!

Im thinking about buying a 1965 Vauxhall Victor wagon, its in good condition but needs some drivetrain work.

The rear oil seal in the transmission is leaking badly, and i cant seem to find the correct seal. Does anybody know where i can find this? Part number?

    Thanks in advance!

I take it this is FC Victor. From what I can see in the manual this oil seal is specific for that gearbox. You could try vauxhallgreenparts.co.uk to see if they have got one, they might want to know if it is a 3 or 4 speed gearbox. Let me know how you get on.

Take it out and take it to an industrial supply place and see if they can match it up?

If you Google Vauxhall FC Gearbox, Click on images, Click on the first picture, you will see a steel sleeve at the back of the box, I am sure this is part of the seal and you cannot just put a new normal type seal in.

some generic seals are thinner than factory types, it does mean you can sometimes stack 2 seals in the housing for extra leaky freeness though
need a job done on your project? i may be able to help.

Brading: Yes it does seem like the sleeve is part of the seal. Damn this might be harder then i thought. Is there some old part number for the seal in the manual? I have sent an email to vauxhallgreenparts but havent gotten an answer yet.

mattblack: Yes that is what i planned on doing but it does not seem to be that easy. I need to know i can get hold of a seal before i buy the car, i dont wanna go driving around puking gearbox oil all over the place.

mygasser: Extra leaky freeness sounds good

Need to check if there is excessive play at prop yoke as the tail housing could be worn , you might get a seal from Victor or Cresta club , i will check club parts list tonight and see if they have them, have a look on ebay as these gearboxes do come up , I have been selling off my Creasta spares and just sold 3 of these gearboxes (some Bedford CA also use the same seal )

Afraid there are no part numbers in the manual. I have just look at the Factory Vauxhall F Series Manual which has the same type of seal and from what it is saying it sounds like the seal is a material type rather than a rubber type so it might be best if you can fit a rubber seal in instead.
