    '59 Chevy front stub axles

Any one know if the '59 Chevy (car) stub axles are the same as the '57, I've seen a few brake conversion kits offered, some stating that the same kit fits '57 through to '59, others state '59 through to '64; yours sincerely confused dot com!

Hi There Austin Martin, I have a similar page on here, There's a firm called The Tuning Shop
down in Redruth Cornwall that sells gm brake discs etc on ebay, they might be able to help,
I have a 55 chevy sedan with front discs on but they were on the car when I bought it,
I'm looking into fitting front discs on my 58 chevy brookwood, read my page it might be helpful,

    JackGriffin is online now
Might be worth looking on Rockauto to see if the same bearings, etc., are used on both? There is usually tech info for each part, sometimes with dimensions, but you might have to spend some time hunting and comparing parts. Also, is there an online 'Hollander Interchange' or equivalent? Not sure about '57 but '55 had bearing races, not tapered bearings, and I would have thought they would have changed that by '59 as I think they were always problematic.

Good point, I'll have to look what bearings it has in the hubs.

Hi There again, I got a pair of used camaro front discs/hubs yesterday from a
mate to try on my 58 brookwood original front spindles, the camaro hub fits
but it fouls the stub axle, and the camaro stub axle won't fit my car, my
mate thinks the camaro parts are about 1970 era, so might look at fitting
later discs on my original 58 hubs, like Jack Grffin said we will have to
do a bit more ground work.

Had a look at the bearings, they are ball(s) interestingly, (well for me anyway) they are adjustable ball races, with a kind of cone inner race in two halves; never seen that before.

Hi There Austin Martin, I bit the bullet and tried my front disc/hub from my 55 chevy
sedan on my 58 brookwood to see if that fitted, it did, also caliper bracket fits
the original 58 stub axle, so gave in and bought a 55/6/7 brake kit, I have fitted
one side up with new kit and don't see any problems, I wouldn't think there would
be any difference between 58 and 59 setup, hope this was helpful, cheers Richard.
