65 ford falcon C4 trans loses all driver after 1 mile?

My C4 auto losses all gears after 1 mile of driving. it will also start making a noise before it losses all drive as well, the noise it make sounds like a flex-plat hitting its cover shield, could it be the pump? I can turn off the engine and leave it 4-5 minuets and it will start working again selecting all gear perfectly but not for long and then the same think will happen again!

the trans has had a filter and fluid change and the system and trans-cooler have been flushed.

    Any idea?

As the noise is coming from the flex plate area this may be a torque converter issue. The sound may be the stator one way sprag clutch has packed in. Once this happens the stator, which by its very name should stay still, turns in the direction of the engine. Once this happens it stops directing oil to the turbine and you loose drive. It's the automatic equivalent of a burned out clutch in a manual. It's also possible the bits inside the converter are hitting through shaft wear giving you the noise. Either that or you just have a tired old box that's on its last legs. I do rebuild these if your stuck, but cant do the converter. PM me. Was it ok before the fluid change and flush?
