    '72 Nova died on me..

    Afternoon guys and girls

I'm in need of a bit of help if you guys would be so kind...

I took the Chevy down to see Lance Mccormack about having some work done yesterday afternoon - I'll run another thread on that when the wheels set in motion...
On the way back I pulled up at a set of lights, on dropping it into drive to pull off the car hesitated then just died.
I have power, the battery is not dead as on turning the ignition on I get a healthy 14V, all the lights work, the fan starts up etc... so there is power, but on pressing the push start I get nothing, no noise, no click, no attempt to turn over, just nothing. so there doesn't seem to be any power going to the ignition.

Not being a mechanic and just having minimal common knowledge on these things I'm left a bit stumped.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, any questions I'll try to answer as best I can!

Sorry for the lack of info.

Check out power to starter motor connection - this can loosen off. Same with battery connections and battery to earth and engine to earth strap. Check out connections to solenoid. Presumably the car is an auto - so haven't tried bump starting it?

The fact that it stopped when put into drive and now will not start seems to point to the ignition circuitry, is it a column shift? maybe the action of putting it in drive has caused a cable to fall off/break on the ignition switch.

    Cheers for the replies.

After checking the connection to the started motor from the battery, squeezing me head under the car to get a look at the starter motor to changing the wires and a bit of head scratching it turned out to be what should of been checked first..... the fuse. Changed the fuse, problem solved. Why the fuse went is a different matter, but she's alive again.

Thanks for wiring schematics Chris, that's gonna come in handy. My wiring is an absolute mess, the car seems to be have finished in a bit of a rush prior to shipping over here.

Check all connections, as a loose connection can cause a high resistance and so draw more current, causing the fuse to blow.
If I wasn't meant to go that fast, the pedal would only go half way!
