Advice on putting a total diffrent body on a chassis

Could you give me any advice ,help if you put a diffrent style body on a chassis. Its my mate he has a pick up and he wants to put a totaly diffrent body on the chassis.Does it need to have to have a sva test or anythink like that.Or is it a matter of taking the pick up shell off.Put the other body on.Send the v5 off change body style from pick up to what ever he fits.Would it come back with same make on because the pick up was a mazda. Were i have seen them funny cars made like the bed. or arm chair what would that say. Surely it would never say body style, bed.I would begreatfull for any help thanks

Providing the chassis is not cut other than changing NON structural body mounts all it will require is an inspection by the DVLA Local Office. Any body fitted will still be subject to C&U regs.

You are not allowed to use the original manufacturers name or any copyright names in redescribing the vehicle.

C&U are Construction and Use regs that apply to every car out there covering al aspects of legality ie light requirements / positioninng, noise levels tyres condition etc etc.

No forms required, he just needs to contact his Local Office , tell them what he has done and arrange for inspection. They will not be interested in the C&U side f things only that the chassis/ engine numbers / identity ties up with the V5c . After nspection they will ask what he wants to call it and a new logbook will be issued.

If he has any problems when dealing with the Local Office tell him to give me a shout direct and I'll help sort it out. .Many offices have no ideas how the rules should be applied ,sometimes to your advantage, sometimes not.

Remember they will only allow this on an original UNMODIFIED chassis , if they see, or suspect, it's been altered in anyway you are into a whole different procedure.
