    advice on rear axle choice

re-commissioning my Studebaker half ton pickup, retaining the flathead 6 with 4 speed but want to update the rear axle. Would like to use some 4.5" pcd wheels, would prefer drum brakes and a width of 60" from outside drum to drum.
What would anyone suggest? English or American.
    many thanks for any advice

What ratio and overall gearing do you have now as you'll want to retain that . What size rims and tyres are you chnaging to as that will affect what gear ratio you NEED.

If you are not changing wheel and tyre size and I take it that the present axle is good, have you thought about getting the shafts restudded to the 4.5 PCD.

Thanks all and to reply, existing axle has old style tapered shafts, weird shaped drums that only accept a few wheel styles and gearing is way low. I also may change engine and trans one day when other project is finished and if i do the brakes have no provision for a handbrake as it at present is on the trans.Vehicle originaly came with 15 inch wheels which I am matching.

Ford 8.8" is 60" from hub to hub, but they are mostly discs...
