    Alternator charging "issues"

Fired my engine up for the first time last night, which put a big smile on my face :-), so thanks for the wiring advice I've had here already. I have one more question though. I noticed that my red dash light for the alternator charging didn't go out when it was running. I took some pics of the alternator on my phone to try and identify it. It is a denso item, origin unknown, but it is like new so I took a gamble and used it. There are 3 pins at the back (photo's a bit crap). Can anyone suggest what the problem is?

    Thanks guys
    Mark

First place i'd start is by checking its putting out a charge. Should be somewhere around 14 volts. Have you got a electrical meter?

    Re: Alternator charging "issues"

Fair point, thanks. I do have one tucked away somewhere very safe :-/ i.e I will have to hunt for it. Just thinking out loud, because I'm not sure what it's from, I don't know how it would of been originally mounted, but I can't have it spinning the wrong way can I? It's spinning the same way whichever side of the engine its mounted to my way of thinking. Could it be a simple case of a poor earth through a freshly painted bracket? I did'nt have much time to check this last night-was too busy anxiously watching the temperature and oil pressure gauge haha. It ran well though apart from this glitch.
    Thanks

Anythings possible with electrics, i bloody hate them! But if you start at the source i.e. the alternator and thats ok the fix should get cheaper as you go along

One other thing, not sure if you have an internal or external regulator. If its external it might be worth a check.

    Thanks, the regulator is internal.

Difficult to see, But that looks like the "three in row" style Denso socket. If it is, nearest the B terminal is the L contact for the warning light, middle is the IG that goes to the ignition switch, furthest from the B terminal is the S sensing connection, either connect this to the B terminal or to the IG terminal.
