    american torc thrust wheels.

Hi There, I have a set of American torc thrust wheels, 8j x 15, I bought them
second hand to put on my 58 chevy brookwood, I have had one of the wheels
on the rear without a tyre fitted but there is very little clearance between the
outer rim and rear quarter, I think the back spacing is 3"s, these are fully
polished wheels, and with a tyre fitted it will add an extra 1/2" more to withe,
the question is can the centre be altered or would it just be a case of selling
them on and getting a set of 7js, before anybody reply I imagine the alteration
would outway buying new wheels. cheers Richard.

    cheaper to buy another set.

you may still get away with 8" wide, but a smaller backspace.

you can use youre wheels as reference.you prob want about 20 to 25mm clearance on the inside

Look on Northants tyres website. They list all available sizes and back spacings.

I wundered if a machine shop could lathe cut the centre through and reset
backspace from there, reweldings no problem, I would be prepared to spend
a couple of hundred having them altered, as I would probably loose money
    on them if I resell,

are they torque thrust o, torque thrust d or torque thrust II (fully polished)? the last are 2 piece welded but the first 2 are cast one piece so not practical to cut out the centres. the 2 piece could be machined through the weld i guess then re welded once the backspace is altered.
    neil.

Neil, they are two piece, you can see where they machine welded, I really
would like to have them on my brookwood,

Shirley, by the time a reputable company has machined off the old welds, made a substantial fixture to weld them back together squarely, done the welding, then probably still had to run them through a machine to get everything properly square, it would be cheaper to buy the right ones and sell the others off?

i'd have thought so. you have to weigh how much you'd lose selling what you have against the cost of getting them altered.
