Its a BMC B series in a Devon, in which case an engine from an MGB should fit (and lots of tuning parts available). Might be worth searching for what parts from which engine you need e.g. sump, oil pump, timing cover, bell housing etc. Either that or put them side-by-side and it should be obvious. Not a modern engine though if that's what you're looking for.
I'm sure I've seen it done before.

When I bought my Devon it had a 1622 Cambridge lump fitted but still slow as the original diff is about 5:1 !! Mowog stuff isn't as straightforward as good old Ford though John

1800 mgb/marina engine will need mods done to the back plate to allow for oil seal, and front plate will need swapping for 1200 one, 1622 fits straight in and i believe an a60 diff will also fit, you will find that a very comfy cruiser without to much work.

I put a MGB 1800 engine into my 49 A-40 pickup using the stock flr.shift trans. Also installed MGB rearend{3.9 ratio] Check out Austin Counties Car Club Forum [Devon]. I put on there
more info on what I did to make it work. Also put A-60 frt. brakes complete [hubs, backplates, drums etc.] Fitted TR-6 rims all around. Goes great and stops great.
