    Hi. I'm considering buying a wooden bed kit for my chevy fleetside, where is best place in uk to source this?

    local wood place.pick youre wood.get them to cut it down for you and away you go

    Yes that's fine if I was doing a half hearted job, but I am restoring so want it done properly.
    Wood is not the issue getting the correct metal trim is.

    Bit of an insult to say non standard is a half hearted job! Rodding is also about improving over standard (it is a rodding site ;o)
    ie, using a decent hardwood and stainless rather than pine and ally.
    Most kits probably are not standard anyway

    I went a reclamation yard who specialises in solid wood flooring, managed to get solid oak tongue and groove, personally I'm not a fan of the metal strips but everyone is different

    just buy the strips from one of the uk truck company,s then you can still get youre wood from the local yard.they will give you a choice of different hardwoods to choose from

    Made my own, purchased the metal strips from Brothers in the US, wood from the local timber yard, the yard will usually rip the boards to width and thickness (plane) the wood to your dimensions, then all you need is a router and bits (from around £30) to cut the rebates for the strips. Easily done in an afternoon. Dimensions for the wood can be found on the internet,but check the measurements against your own truck bed, just in case you find a slight discrepancy.
