Are the shocks working ok? It's only under light braking that it happens could they be sticking a bit giving a left hand lean that gets worse each dap? Under hard braking the whole front goes down and stays down.
    Maybe?
Just throwing ideas at you now

Vega box = cross steering. Does it have a panhard bar? Not sure if a lack of one would cause these symptoms, but if the drag link and tie rod angles were wrong, braking could cause bump steer?

I considered swapping the entire front end out of it and dropping in mine just eliminate any axle /spring issues ... I didn't have time to do all that buit I can see it happening ...

still got to drop if on the brake rollers ,I will eat my hat if there is a brake issue ... its nothing physical in the brake set up, all the components are sound so I cant see an issue,, and remember it did the same with a whole different brake set up on there previously....

Yep cross steer, but It doesn't have any bump steer, Ive driven other rods, mainly with independent fronts and some were scarry to drive they had such bad steering and horrific bump steer ..

My own beam axled cars had forward steer and one TCI based chassis with vega cross steer none of them bump steered, the best one was a B coupe with VW split screen box it steered like a dream and had loads of feedback, A roadster had a VW box too but a bay window, steering was heavy but never a problem drove great, A coupe had vega , had the usual vagueness about it but never wandered or bump steered ... This car drives OK its a bit wandery and vauge I feel, but it doesn't bump steer or pull or play up at all until you dab the brakes a few times ..... then after say four or five dabs you really have to put serious effort into pulling the wheel right to couter the pull to the left and if you let the wheel go ( walking pace) it spins full tilt all the way left ... and quite violently at that... Hmmm kinda like bump steer I suppose , but without the violent jerk that often manifests itself, and it would appear only when you brake .. a brake induced slow acting gradual bump steer...

Have you still not found time to shove the car in the brake rollers? For the wheel to be wrenched out of your hands the way you say it does would point to a serious amount of scrub radius , does the car have big offset rims?

Now Bob, you and I are singing from the same hymn sheet... I was staring at the car today and going through everything in my head. I always mentioned we were missing something very obvious .. and there it was

Scrub radius... I was trying to explain it to my buddy but he wasn't getting it and I wasn't seeing what could be causing it ... but It struck me ...

The car does run skinnies, 550 /16s if I remember right, but not only that, the obvious bit .... wheel spacer/ adapters around an inch and a half maybe 2 inches thick...

When he went away I got to thinking why it should do this with no other eliminated reason... Its also the only part that's been common between both brake set ups and still remains on the car that can effect the geometry and cause a pull on the wheel like that ...

were going to shift the wheels off it and drop on some deeper off set rims and /or ditch the spacers .. I'm keeping my fingers crossed this is the answer... It has to be something as simple as that that was staring me in the face but it didn't register.... I'm not 100% sure but I think my buddy is coming around to the fact that the car might benefit from a rebuild, just to put a few things right without messing with the look of the car...

Its definitely the fastest car in the Valley, the valley of Strathmore

that would suggest the castor angle is going the wrong way .can you measure the castor angle?
