    chassis modification

ive just started my new project, a pb commer, now back to
a rolling shell after lowering all round.

i realy want to go airbags all round, but to do this and get it
low at the rear, i would have to 'c' cut the rear chassis over
    the axle area.

if i did this, would this then get involved in all the new rules
and regs for the eventual mot as the commer has been off the
road for the last 2 years ?

my main plan was to just get it back on the road, mot'd, then do the
mods, but if the mods didnt affect the mot,i could make the start now

oh and ps, its going to have a mid mounted rover v8 / auto, will this
make any difference mot wise ?

thanks in advance for any advice.

...and of course you'd be able to back up al the above statements with proof of when and where carried out ? Don't forgt if claiming that stuff is 'original' that if the DVLA have any doubt they will ask for a letter of confirmation from a club on the authorised V765 list.

Here's what you can and can't do legally. You are only in trouble if/when caught running it as ,legally, you are required to notify DVLA of chnages to the chassis or monococque.

    thanks for that,

think i prefer paul's idea better but mmmmm, !

so, me being a bit tik !, is it 2 points per axle or for both ?

im keeping the front setup, apart from the airbags change, but im
swapping the rear axle for a scimitar as its the same width and comes
kind of ready with a 4 bar set up ?

so would it be down to the descresion of the mot man ?

    many thanks.

Can you just clarify something? Is this vehicle already registered and you have the logbook? just wondering because you keep referring to the mot, not registration, its registration that inccurs points, what you do to the chassis is of no consequence to the MOT tester, as long as it is clearly safe and well executed.

    Hi Tony,

It needs to be MOTed before you can register it.

    Cheers.

    hi streetfighter,

yes its allready registered and i have the v5c in my name, it was taken off the
road 2 years ago, completly stripped ready for blasting, but then the owner decided
to sell as is before blasting.

im afraid im not jenned up on the rules etc and at this stage i would prefer to start the
mods now on the bus,but was'nt sure if the chassis mod to the rear would affect the
mot and make it go the iva ( or what ever it is ) route.

sorry if i got this all round my neck,i just wanted to make sure first before i get the angle
    grinder out !

    thanks.

kev could cofirm, but if a scimitar is the right width then why not fit your body to a complete scimitar chassis and 'rebody' as per dvla rules? neil.
need a job done on your project? i may be able to help.

not raely as the ifs on these are narrow to clear the arches, which i quite like the look of.

here's a pic as its sits at the mo after lowering from stock.
