    Chevy body off again.

Thinking of taking the body off my fleetline rails The car needs very little welding. the sils inner and outta etc are all good so my question is, Is there any need to brace it and would you remove doors to remove weight or leave em on to add support?

Assuming you mean brace it?....no. I took the body off a 50's Poncho and it was heavy but manageable.

How many of you did it take to remove it? I managed t remove a 42 ford truck cab on my own with a engine crane some rollers and a sturdy bench.

Took 4 of us I think. May have had an engine crane at the front too though. Front clip was all off but doors boot etc were still on.

I took the body off my Chevy 210 1955 4 door sedan with all doors bootlid bonnet and seats in it on my own with 4 big axle stands 1 x 3 ton trolley jack and 2 x little trolley jacks and a couple of sturdy lengths of box section bolted to the extreme front and rear body mounts. I took the rear wheels off the car and dragged the chassis out the front with the front wheels on, I have now filled the boot and interior with the wings etc and front panel radiator mount panel and I can still open the doors and shut them perfectly ok with no body distortion and the car has been like this for about 6 weeks now whist I prepare the chassis. Putting it back on painted is obviously going to be a fukker though.

I took the body off the Ranchero on my own, four big axle stands and a couple of lengths of 2" box section. I jacked it a bit at a time front & back with axle stands outboard of the wheels with the 2" box section running under the sills from side to side, the axle stands under the ends. Don't underestimate how high you have to get it, I had to remove the rear wheels to get the back end low enough to pass under the body. When I put it back on I'll use a couple of engine cranes.

Should also say I didn't brace it, but I replaced both sills before I lifted it off the chassis.
