well my engine and box is back together and still it wont go into gear,i have just read somewhere on the net that the alfa spider 105 type used an 11/16 master cylinder im using a .700 will this make that much difference?
cheers

I wouldn't think so as the difference between the two is just a nats. If it has an external slave you could check the travel by getting someone to press the clutch while you're underneath.
Did you have problems mating the box to the engine? If so, I wonder if you've got some damge to the spigot bearing causing the flywheel to drag on the input shaft when the clutch is pressed
Money talks; unfortunately mine just says "goodbye"
all is good on the engine/box front,i put a spacer between the push rod and arm tonite and i could engage the gears for a short while then it slowly got worse untill i couldnt get them again.im stumped!
This has to be hydraulic, I can't see anything else being progressive like this. HAve you changed the master as I wonder if the seals are going bad letting fluid pass back.
On my Chevy there is no bleed nipple so you remove the slave from the bellhousing and hang it with the pipe at the top. I've done this a couple of times, left it overnight and it's been right as rain. According to Chevy the air simply rises to the master and exits the system

my slave is from a spider(105 type) and master cylinder is a universal brake/clutch landrover type .700
Not got a listing for a 105 Spider ,what year is that ? I know they did the Spider Model twice ( 70's first time round )but they are only showing 95 on .
The 19mm master is 3/4 /.750" so you are light on fluid displacement which will limit slave cylinder travel if stock slave is used.
The .70 you are using is 11/16ths but there is nothing showing in the parts book for that . Having checked through ALL Alfa models up to 1999 ,they show a 19mm master and 25.4 slave so looks like the .70 is causing loss of part of your travel

its a 1974 spider so itll be 25.4 slave and its a universal clutch master not alfa, allso i noticed that the fluid looked black so dont know if thats any help?
If the fluid is black then the seal is breaking up. Rather thanareseal ( not always successful ) why not replace it with the correct 19mm bore at the same time , two birds with one stone
right then i snuck out of work and bought a new 3/4 master cylinder the thing is its got a longer pushrod with it,i fitted it(with my clutch pedal leaning towards me)bled it up and IT WORKS!!! thank f**k for that, ill give it a good run fri along with notchin my pedal bending it back slightly and welding it up,just got to balance the carbs etc etc,its a great weight off me now i've just got to finish it properly!!
i've learned loads out of building this(mostly not what to do) and cant wait to start using it.
thanks for your help fella's...ill be back!
