colonge 2.9v6 to rover v8 conversion help

i have a usa spec ford 2.9 V6 colonge engine in my bronco and the heads are a known fault (craking on mounting points) and mine have gone again so i am trying to find out whats needed to rip it out and fit a rover V8, prob be a 3.5 on carbs

mine is on efi and i dont mind gutting it to put in a old school carbs and dizzy system..

any info you guys and gals can throw my way would be great as mine is 4x4 and would like to mate it to the original box to keep it 4x4 as comes in usefull round here (welsh countryside) and i really crave the v8 note and tourqe which mine should have came with instead of the poor v6...

i know that ford 302ci v8 are fitted by many but is a hassle aswell and i am new to v8s

Exactly, quicker, easier and cheaper than a Rover. Even a 12v 2.9 makes as least as much power as a basic carbed Rover too. 2.9 Scorpio is hard to give away these days, I've done a 2.9EFI swap for less than £200 before. Cosworth's better than a 3.9 EFi Rover too.

cheers guys i see where you are going with the v6 advice but i have had several 2.9/2.8 v6's and all have been a hassle so maybe i might go for a 4.0 explorer v6 or just save bit more and go for the 303ci ford...

i am not after speed as its a 4x4 and only really good for 85mph tops and once lifted really not an idea to be going round bends etc quick hence wanting tourqe rather than just bhp

Our Granada Mk11, now mainly use as the tow car has had a couple of Rovers the latest one being a 4.6 rangey lump and I love it. The big lump don't rev like a 3.5 but bloody hell has it got torque. I startled a couple of chav's last summer when I out draged them up hill with the race car on the trailer
engine mounts were a peice of cake I used the stock ford rubbers on the cross member, and the rover engine brackets and the engine dropped in onto them, about 1.5" too far fwd, so I extended them to suit and braced them. Most rover conversions have probs with the oil filter getting in the way of something or even everything a remote filter is the way out.
I've just re read your post and it's a 4x4 so check if the front driveshaft are on the same side, and think about a pranged 4.6 rangey, that way you get a 4spd o/drive ZF box to boot ( I use an XJ Jag box which is the same ZF without the transfer box, and bolts up to a rangey bell house)
    Counting miles counting tears
    Twisted road shifting gears
Year after year, It's all or nothing
