    Dana 44

Anyone out there know where i can get a diff for my 53 F100 that is fitted with the dana 44 rear axle, i have been told that they didn't come with this axle as standard so i keep drawing blanks with all the pickup restoration parts suppliers.
Would appreciate any info, truck is also fitted with a 351 cleveland and spins the wheels with the slightest touch of the throttle, hence needing another diff.

This may be of some help, I'm pretty sure you can use the search without joining (or just register and rinse the search function)...this is the '48 - '60 specific F truck forum section -

Or there are other sections specifically for suspension -

And this is the forum home -

I spend a lot of time nosing through here, there are a lot of helpful people.

Just wondering, but what are you after exactly? The same axle but a different gear ratio? Or a different set up entirely?

We met a guy in Wickford (Essex) who is somewhat of an expert in Dana 44s (could dig his details out if you want them). Apparently Dana 44s are used in Jeeps, but in a different incarnation. He had some good ideas about the possibility of swapping the internals with some new parts from a Jeep. Which would mean you could pretty much pick your gear ratio. On the downside though, it sounded very expensive. (Requires specialist tools and knowledge to strip and rebuild them aaparently).

FYI our 51 F1 was fitted with a Dana 44 as standard. I'm sure I read that the axles are interchangeable between the 51 and 53, so it could well be that the Dana 44 was the standard axle for your year to.
