    delco alternator marks

    hi ,going to bang a alternator on my truck, + bat and D+ dash light, but what does the w mean spade connector ?will i need it , or am i missing something, early 90s alternator, 70 amp , steve

    W= Wave = AC output from one of the stator coils.

    It's used as an engine management speed reference feed on some petrol engines, or to drive a rev counter on some diesels. leaving it disconnected when your car doesn't need it is OK.

    Just hi-jacking this thread to save starting a new one...I have a small alternator on my motor. The big ring terminal goes to the battery, the 'ign' goes to a switched live and the third goes to the ign light and then to the ign switch...yes?

    Yes if it's a Denso alternator which only has the three terminals you mention, some that have four terminals have a "sense" connection too.
