    Dellorto twin 40 set up

If they are DRLA's they should be fairly easy to tweak.
Basic settings first.......remove linkage and back idle cam right off so throttle plates are closed. Wind them both out evenly about 3 full turns. the mixture screw are the ones on the side of the carb inline with the venturis. Screw them all the way in GENTLY, then back them out 2.5 turns. Check the accelerator pump jets are scooshing fuel in when you work the throttles.
Start it up working the throttles manually, you need good co-ordination for this, blip it until it is warm. If it will idle, then get a length of tubing about 10mm id and strick one end in your ear and the other one in each venturi.
By listening to the amount of sucking going on you can tune the throttle openings to balance the carbs. Once balanced. connect linkage and check it opens both carbs simultaneously. Read the plugs after a bit to suss out mixture settings.

I am assuming it's a flat Alfa engine with down draught Dells fitted although this way may work with other types.

yes its an alfa engine but the carbs are side draught DHLA's i think, ill try the rubber hose trick though,i might try to adjust the idle screws bottom them out counting the turns take them out and blow them out with the airline, replace and try setting them.
    cheers

The last time I worked on Dells ( downdraughts on a Rover ) I was surprised to find that they specify 4 turns out as the baseline mixture setting?

I was trying to find an online tuning article. I'll mail a mate as I think he found one awhile back.

Re: Dellorto twin 40 set up

right then i've ran it today and it seemed a bit better,so i took it for a quick drive round then ran out of petrol!! after it fired up again it was still ok,theres a very slight hesitation but nothing like before so im thinking that maybe running petrol through the carbs may have broken down any old residue etc that was in the jets?
anyways itll get me to the mot as is and then i can set the carbs at my leisure when i get the instructions.
    thanks again fellas.

Try and get a hold of the Dell'orto Superformance manual if you can.
I have one from my VW days and it is very good. I.ll see if it covers the DHLA too.
