Ooh, remeber that with a boosted system extra care has to be taken when fitting the gaskets as they need to operate under +ve and -ve pressuer (apologies if I just passed you another egg to suck.....)

I don't mind sucking eggs if one of them turns out to be one I missed!

I have just had the jets in the sonic bath, just about to put the carb back together and then we shall see where we are up to when I clag it all back on.

I'm not worried about the fuel pressure, simply because it doesn't die after a couple of seconds after the float bowl empties, it straight away backfires. But I will increase the pressure anyway just to rule that out.

Pressure and flow are often mistaken as the same thing, you can have pressure but no flow and vice versa. It's a 5 minute check with a bucket and or hose to check you're getting the flow. The pipe could be a restriction which in turn would cause a pressure rise and send you on a bum steer

Another daft question, you say that your vac advance is disconnected? Where does it connect too and have you plugged it? It should go between your carb and turbo

Just about to put it all back together now, will see what happens when I do. I see what you mean about the fuel flow vs pressure, will check that too.

Well, no real change. Maybe less pops through the carb but that might just be me. Dead battery has stopped play.

I did check fuel flow, seems to be flowing well enough, if the car can use fuel as fast I just saw it flow, then there's going to be a serious problem! LOL!

So... next step, once she has cooled down, is to check all the other joints AGAIN to see if there's something amiss there. The pumps jets are definitely working and squirting fuel in, though interestingly this time the washing up liquid bottle trick just made it bog down rather that allow it to rev. So, maybe I am getting somewhere?

I think when I next get it to fire up, I will let it idle for a good while, let everything get nice and hot. It's infuriatingly close! Once I get this cracked all I have to do is connect the headlights and take it for an MOT!

Oh one thing it did do differently was I managed to hold the throttle wide open with the choke out. The revs tried to climb but it backfired like a bugger through the exhaust only while doing this. Maybe climbed to about 1500rpm and wouldn't go higher. Got me a bit baffled now, assuming I find no leaks anywhere!
