Electrical Spark in my Vacuum Advance!

I just fired up my car just to circulate some oil ( and I like the sound) and noticed for the first time that in the vacuum advance housing, there is the occasional spark. No pattern to it, no running issues and no misfire. Is this usual in a Rover V8 with a hi output coil and a twin point Mallory distributor?

And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts, And I looked and behold: a pale horse. And his name, that sat on him, was Death. And Hell followed with him.

do you mean theres an arc from one of the HT leads to the vacuum diaphragm on the dizzy ? If so replace the leads or route properly

No, this is no arc from a HT lead. The vacuum bellows housing on the side of the distributer has a small hole in it (to allow equalised pressure I presume), through which you can just see the advance-retard actuator move as the engine is revved. Occasionally there is a flash of an arc/spark inside the housing!

Maybe some petrol vapour is getting into the housing and exploding every now and again.
Some cars have a fuel trap on the pipe.

Or the baseplate in the dizzy is not earthed properly.

its a portal to hell for extremely small sinners, every one of those sparks is a little soul going through,
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts, And I looked and behold: a pale horse. And his name, that sat on him, was Death. And Hell followed with him.

If the dizzy is new then the inside of the capsule will still be shiney and what you are seeing is probably the rotor sparks reflecting on it.

ok i,m gonna have a serious guess here, it could be a build up of ozone gas which is conductive, or possibly a damaged spring causing the small arc you are seeing?

I had this scenario once a few years ago when a friends rover powered pop was missfiring eratically. It turned out that the dizzy was shot and the spark was coming from a leak from the points every now and then. When tested there was 28'000 volts escaping and shot me across the floor on more than one occasion. A trip to the breakers for another dizzy sorted it, I think the problem stemmed from a worn dizzy shaft.
If it's got tits or tyres, its gonna be trouble
