After more tests I settled on a momentary push button so all it takes is to hold the button in for starting the motor or any left side window ops. Decided on the push button switch so the test technician (or me or wife) cannot leave it switched on and cancel out the key fob receiver. So far it works so tax and insurance will be back on for Sunday and then a few weeks in Wales to show how confident I feel.

After six months my work around is still working and my old Jeep is still earning its corn. MOT test coming up so will be interesting to see how the tester gets on with it. I am assured it is not something the test covers but hopefully no other banana skins lurking.

Update, after more than three years my work around is still going strong. Good daily driver starts on the button. Only thing against it is I fancy a change after 20 years. It has still only done about 115k so motor could go on in a boat perhaps or maybe whole car as a mud slinger? I have been eying the crew cab style vans from Vauxhall VW and Ford, maybe other makes. Still need to carry one or two race bikes so could be a one vehicle solution and the old Hiace could go too.
